Start or get back into a routine of dental check-ups … for a beautiful smile and healthy “you”
At McKinney Dental, we provide total family care for individuals of all ages from Madison and across greater Southern Wisconsin. We take pride in working with family members to keep their teeth and gums in good shape, regardless of their life stage and circumstances. Since we get to know individuals so well, our team, led by Dr. Dan McKinney is in the best possible position to recommend appropriate services, products, and guidance that effectively restores or sustains oral health.
This process is a journey. And fundamental to this journey is “routine recare.” These services refer to semi-annual visits or dental check-ups. During these visits, our valued patients will largely:
- Have their teeth cleaned to bring out the beautiful, healthy best in their smiles – Our hygienists are trained on how to gently and properly remove bacteria, plaque, and stubborn tartar from the teeth and gumline. They also have special tools to safely and thoroughly remove these substances, as well as surface stains. This step in the check-up process helps to minimize the risk of developing tooth decay and gum disease. It also promotes stain-free, attractive-looking teeth and minty-fresh breath.
- Have their mouths examined by Dr. Dan – Our dentist doesn’t “just” look at your teeth; he also checks your gums, as well as the surrounding supportive hard and soft tissues that play such a role in the function of your teeth, and your overall systemic health and wellbeing. Since many problems with the teeth and gums are “silent” or asymptomatic in their earliest stages, it is essential for Dr. Dan to detect, address, and resolve potential issues before they progress and result in irreparable damage.
- Undergo oral cancer screenings – Dr. Dan uses his keen eye and know-how to evaluate for patches of discoloration, swelling, lumps, bumps, and other anomalies that could be indicative of pre-cancers or cancers. Not unlike other cancers, oral cancer has a high survival rate when diagnosed and treated early – before the tumor has spread.
- Digital X-rays and other advanced diagnostics – Dr. Dan has a good eye, but he can’t see everything! For what cannot be pinpointed with the human eye, diagnostic tools such as digital imaging may be used to inform accurate and early diagnoses of a range of conditions. An accurate diagnosis helps to inform the development of a plan that effectively treats the condition.
These routine visits also provide ample opportunity for our hygienists and doctor to demonstrate good brushing and flossing techniques, or to recommend the best floss, toothbrush, antibacterial rinse, or other oral care products for you. We may also discuss, or even apply, professional preventative products – like dental sealants or supplemental fluoride.
